The Yeya river is the pride of Novopokrovskaya residents
It starts in the vast steppes and runs through the entire northeast of the region to the Sea of Azov. It is the longest and most abundant river in the Azov-Kuban plain, and the second longest in the Krasnodar Territory, spanning 311 km. The water flows from east to west, originating from the Stavropol Upland’s spurs, near Novopokrovskaya District. The river flows into the Yeisk estuary of the Sea of Azov. Fish species found in the river include crucian carp, perch, pike, carp, redfin, bream, roach, and even pikeperch raised in stocked ponds.
Wild geese, ducks, sandpipers, and herons are commonly spotted in reeds and marshy gullies. Graceful swans swim in open water areas, unbothered by locals and tourists observing them. Seagulls and muskrats can also be found in the area.
Cordon (Frontier)
The Yeisk entrenchment (field fortification) is situated behind Novopokrovskaya village. It is 80 meters high. Positioned above the Yeya River, this location is still referred to as ‘cordon.’ Historically, it was a lookout post for Cossack guards. This spot marked the border with the Turks, and the initial settlers of our village sought refuge here. In 1788, Suvorov oversaw the Kuban corps, directing the construction of fortresses, entrenchment, and defensive lines, with Novopokrovskaya cordon being one of them.
This ancient mound appears gray due to the silver wormwood and feather grass covering it. Below it, the river Yeya flows almost imperceptibly. All around it is the vast, invisible steppe. During spring, it becomes a place for nightingales, while in summer, seagulls and swans nest there.
Military Garden
The military garden is located on the right bank of the Yeya tributary, the Ternovka River, five kilometers from the village of Kalnibolotskaya in Novopokrovskaya District. The garden was laid by the Cossacks of the village. Young Cossacks were trained in martial arts here.
At present, the garden area is being used as a children’s camp called Chaika. The forest, natural surroundings, a private beach, and the clean waters of the Ternovka River attract both parents and children during summer.
The garden is also used for its original purpose: patriotic upbringing. Training takes place in military camps.
